This is another edition of H-Block/Armagh News issued by H-Block/Armagh Action Group in Drumcondra, a campaign of the Communist Party of Ireland (Marxist-Leninist). This edition leads with photographs of the H-Block hunger strikers and the headline ‘Salute the Prisoners’. It argues that ‘the hunger strikers and particularly the ten martyrs who died unvanquished, in a heroic triumph of the human spirt over its material surroundings transformed the prison protest into something much larger and riveted the world attention on the drama being played out. The ironic consequence of this for the British was that it was they who found themselves in the dock of international opinion. And virtually unanimously found guilty.’
Inside there are details of a National March to be held in October and a Torchlit Procession in Dublin.
There’s also a reprint from the Civil Rights Guardian of an article by Eibhlin Ni Sheidhir entitled ‘Torture and Cover Up: the case of James Rafferty’.
The last page has a scathing analysis of the comments of Fine Gael Senator Dooge, and designate Minister for Foreign Affairs at the United Nations where ‘he condemned the political prisoners claim to the five demands (including political recognition).
The leaflet also advertises a public meeting on ‘censoring ourselves – the media and the north’ with Tom McGuirk, E. McCann and Vincent Browne as speakers.
