This is an unusual leaflet, a first for the Archive given the organisation it issued from. A5 in size and single-sided. It argues under the heading Kick The Imperialists Out of Trinity!
The US Army funding agency and the US Air Force Office of Sponsored Research are planning a meeting in Trinity College for the end of February – with the aim of securing research projects within the college. It is a scandalous fact that Trinity is considering accepting research funds that will go into the killing of countless innocent men, women and children. This meeting must be firmly opposed by all students and staff.
It continues:
Though outrageous, this latest event is indeed only the logical conclusion of the marketisation of higher education. Universities in capitalist society cannot operate independently of the interests of the ruling class. In Ireland this means being tied by a thousand threads to US imperialism. For these ladies and gentlemen, academic “integrity” “freedom” and “neutrality” are but so many figleaves behind which the real interests of the ruling class are hidden. In fact, many such funding opportunities” through the US army are already advertised in Trinity’s website! We say IMPERIALISTS OUT OF TRINITY!
Notable is the badging of this leaflet which is Marxist.com and @Irishmarxists. These are the online manifestations of the Revolutionary Communist International. As noted on wiki:
The Revolutionary Communist International (RCI) is a Trotskyist political international. It was founded as the Committee for a Marxist International (CMI) by British-based South African political theorist Ted Grant and his supporters after they broke with the Committee for a Workers’ International in 1992, and was subsequently renamed the International Marxist Tendency (IMT) in 2004 before adopting its current name in June 2024. The organization’s website, Marxist.com, is edited by Alan Woods. The site is multilingual, and publishes international current affairs articles written from a Marxist perspective, as well as historical and theoretical articles.
